And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes. 23.  In quel mentre, si trovava nella loro sinagoga un uomo posseduto da uno spirito immondo, il quale prese a gridare: And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, 24.  Che v’è fra noi e te, o Gesù Nazareno? Se’ tu venuto per perderci? Io so chi tu sei: il Santo di Dio! Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God. 25.  E Gesù lo sgridò, dicendo: Ammutolisci ed esci da costui! And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. 26.  E lo spirito immondo, straziatolo e gridando forte, uscì da lui. And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27.  E tutti sbigottirono talché si domandavano fra loro: Che cos’è mai questo? E’ una dottrina nuova! Egli comanda con autorità perfino agli spiriti immondi, ed essi gli ubbidiscono! And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? 9.  Che è più agevole, dire al paralitico: I tuoi peccati ti sono rimessi, oppur dirgli: Lèvati, togli il tuo lettuccio e cammina? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? 10.  Ora, affinché sappiate che il Figliuol dell’uomo ha potestà in terra di rimettere i peccati: But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11.  Io tel dico (disse al paralitico), lèvati, togli il tuo lettuccio, e vattene a casa tua. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners? 17.  E Gesù, udito ciò, disse loro: Non sono i sani che hanno bisogno del medico, ma i malati. Io non son venuto a chiamar de’ giusti, ma dei peccatori. When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. 18.  Or i discepoli di Giovanni e i Farisei solevano digiunare. E vennero a Gesù e gli dissero: Perché i discepoli di Giovanni e i discepoli dei Farisei digiunano, e i discepoli tuoi non digiunano? And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast: and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? 19.  E Gesù disse loro: Possono gli amici dello sposo digiunare, mentre lo sposo è con loro? Finché hanno con sé lo sposo, non possono digiunare. And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20.  Ma verranno i giorni che lo sposo sarà loro tolto; ed allora, in quei giorni, digiuneranno. But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. 21.  Niuno cuce un pezzo di stoffa nuova sopra un vestito vecchio; altrimenti la toppa nuova porta via del vecchio, e lo strappo si fa peggiore. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16.  E parimente quelli che ricevono la semenza in luoghi rocciosi sono coloro che, quando hanno udito la Parola, la ricevono subito con allegrezza; And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17.  e non hanno in sé radice ma son di corta durata; e poi, quando venga tribolazione o persecuzione a cagion della Parola, son subito scandalizzati. And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended. 18.  Ed altri sono quelli che ricevono la semenza fra le spine; cioè coloro che hanno udita la Parola; And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19.  poi le cure mondane e l’inganno delle ricchezze e le cupidigie delle altre cose, penetrati in loro, affogano la Parola, e così riesce infruttuosa. And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. 20.  Quelli poi che hanno ricevuto il seme in buona terra, sono coloro che odono la Parola e l’accolgono e fruttano qual trenta, qual sessanta e qual cento. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred. 21.  Poi diceva ancora: Si reca forse la lampada per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? Non è ella recata per esser messa sul candeliere? And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? 22.  Poiché non v’è nulla che sia nascosto se non in vista d’esser manifestato; e nulla è stato tenuto segreto, se non per esser messo in luce. For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. 23.  Se uno ha orecchi da udire oda. And they that saw it told them how it befell to him that was possessed with the devil, and also concerning the swine. 17.  Ed essi presero a pregar Gesù che se ne andasse dai loro confini, And they began to pray him to depart out of their coasts. 18.  E come egli montava nella barca, l’uomo che era stato indemoniato lo pregava di poter stare con lui. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? 31.  E i suoi discepoli gli dicevano: Tu vedi come la folla ti si serra addosso e dici: Chi mi ha toccato? And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? 32.  Ed egli guardava attorno per vedere colei che avea ciò fatto. And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. 31.  Ed egli disse loro: Venitevene ora in disparte, in luogo solitario, e riposatevi un po’. And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. 32.  Partirono dunque nella barca per andare in un luogo solitario in disparte. And they departed into a desert place by ship privately. 33.  E molti li videro partire e li riconobbero; e da tutte le città accorsero là a piedi e vi giunsero prima di loro. And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him. 34.  E come Gesù fu sbarcato, vide una gran moltitudine e n’ebbe compassione, perché erano come pecore che non hanno pastore; e si mise ad insegnar loro molte cose. And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. 35.  Ed essendo già tardi, i discepoli gli s’accostarono e gli dissero: Questo luogo è deserto ed è già tardi; And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, This is a desert place, and now the time is far passed: 36.  licenziali, affinché vadano per le campagne e per i villaggi d’intorno a comprarsi qualcosa da mangiare. Send them away, that they may go into the country round about, and into the villages, and buy themselves bread: for they have nothing to eat. 37.  Ma egli rispose loro: Date lor voi da mangiare. Ed essi a lui: Andremo noi a comprare per dugento danari di pane e daremo loro da mangiare? He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat? 38.  Ed egli domandò loro: Quanti pani avete? andate a vedere. Ed essi, accertatisi, risposero: Cinque, e due pesci. He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes. 39.  Allora egli comandò loro di farli accomodar tutti a brigate sull’erba verde; And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. 40.  e si assisero per gruppi di cento e di cinquanta. And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties. 41.  Poi Gesù prese i cinque pani e i due pesci, e levati gli occhi al cielo, benedisse e spezzò i pani, e li dava ai discepoli, affinché li mettessero dinanzi alla gente; e i due pesci spartì pure fra tutti. Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem. 2.  E videro che alcuni de’ suoi discepoli prendevano cibo con mani impure, cioè non lavate. And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault. 3.  Poiché i Farisei e tutti i Giudei non mangiano se non si sono con gran cura lavate le mani, attenendosi alla tradizione degli antichi; For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders. 4.  e quando tornano dalla piazza non mangiano se non si sono purificati con delle aspersioni. Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? 20.  Diceva inoltre: E’ quel che esce dall’uomo che contamina l’uomo; And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. 21.  poiché è dal di dentro, dal cuore degli uomini, che escono cattivi pensieri, fornicazioni, furti, omicidi, For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22.  adulteri, cupidigie, malvagità, frode, lascivia, sguardo maligno, calunnia, superbia, stoltezza. Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: 23.  Tutte queste cose malvage escono dal di dentro e contaminano l’uomo. The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter. 27.  Ma Gesù le disse: Lascia che prima siano saziati i figliuoli; ché non è bene prendere il pane dei figliuoli per buttarlo a’ cagnolini. But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. 28.  Ma ella rispose: Dici bene, Signore; e i cagnolini, sotto la tavola, mangiano de’ minuzzoli dei figliuoli. And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. 29.  E Gesù le disse: Per cotesta parola, va’; il demonio è uscito dalla tua figliuola. And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. 30.  E la donna, tornata a casa sua, trovò la figliuolina coricata sul letto e il demonio uscito di lei. I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat: 3.  E se li rimando a casa digiuni, verranno meno per via; e ve n’hanno alcuni che son venuti da lontano. And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far. 4.  E i suoi discepoli gli risposero: Come si potrebbe mai saziarli di pane qui, in un deserto? And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness? 5.  Ed egli domandò loro: Quanti pani avete? Essi dissero: Sette. And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? In verità io vi dico: Non sarà dato alcun segno a questa generazione. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread. 17.  E Gesù, accortosene, disse loro: Perché ragionate voi del non aver pane? Non riflettete e non capite voi ancora? And they answered, John the Baptist: but some say, Elias; and others, One of the prophets. 29.  Ed egli domandò loro: E voi, chi dite ch’io sia? E Pietro rispose: Tu sei il Cristo. And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ. 30.  Ed egli vietò loro severamente di dir ciò di lui ad alcuno. And he charged them that they should tell no man of him. 31.  Poi cominciò ad insegnar loro ch’era necessario che il Figliuol dell’uomo soffrisse molte cose, e fosse reietto dagli anziani e dai capi sacerdoti e dagli scribi, e fosse ucciso, e in capo a tre giorni risuscitasse. And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. 32.  E diceva queste cose apertamente. And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. 35.  Perché chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà; ma chi perderà la sua vita per amor di me e del Vangelo, la salverà. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. 36.  E che giova egli all’uomo se guadagna tutto il mondo e perde l’anima sua? For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? 37.  E infatti, che darebbe l’uomo in cambio dell’anima sua? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? 38.  Perché se uno si sarà vergognato di me e delle mie parole in questa generazione adultera e peccatrice, anche il Figliuol dell’uomo si vergognerà di lui quando sarà venuto nella gloria del Padre suo coi santi angeli. Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
